As part of the safe management of the electrical grid, Hydro-Québec is currently conducting an inventory of trees that pose a risk to distribution lines in our area. This initiative is being carried out in collaboration with Hydro-Québec’s arborist to identify vulnerable trees or those likely to damage electrical infrastructure.
Three Phases
In the first phase, pruning work is expected to begin shortly across the entire territory. Hydro-Québec will be responsible for disposing of the branches and wood resulting from this work.
In the second phase, tree removal operations are expected to start around May in the Senneville sector north of Highway 40. For trees located in the Migratory Bird Sanctuary, work will resume in September to comply with federal regulations. For more information, please visit this page.
A third phase is planned for 2026 to continue the removal of already identified trees in the southern part of Senneville.
Tree Identification and Removal

Trees targeted for removal will be marked with a number and the “HQ” label, as shown in the photo.
If the tree is located on private property and poses a high risk to the power grid, Hydro-Québec will contact the property owner directly by letter, phone, or email. If no communication is received, it means the tree is located on public land and falls under the responsibility of the Municipality of Senneville. If needed, we invite you to address your complaint directly to Hydro-Québec.
Tree Residue Management for Removals
- Private Property: Tree residues will not be handled by the municipality. Their disposal remains the responsibility of the property owner (see article 6.1). In this regard, Hydro-Québec contractors will collect wood with a diameter of less than 10 cm. Wood with a diameter greater than 10 cm will be left on-site, cut into logs of approximately 4 feet.
- Public Property: The Village of Senneville will handle the collection of residues from trees removed within the street right-of-way. Public tree logs can be distinguished by their approximate length of 8 feet.
Tree Replacement Ratio
After a tree is removed from your property, it is essential to comply with the required tree replacement ratio. For any questions or assistance regarding this matter, please contact our urban planning department at info@urbanisme.ca.
