What to Put in the Recycling Bin

Adopting proper sorting habits is essential to protect the environment and ensure the efficiency of selective collection. Here’s a reminder of what materials are accepted in the recycling bin, along with what to do if your bin is damaged. 

Accepted Materials 

Containers 

  • Tin cans 
  • Glass bottles (e.g., wine, spirits) 
  • Oil bottles 
  • Milk or juice cartons (multi-layer) 
  • Yogurt containers (all sizes) 
  • Jam or peanut butter jars 
  • Containers for non-hazardous household cleaning products 
Please note 

– Cardboard or paper containers soiled with food or liquid must go in the brown bin. 
– Aluminum cans and plastic ready-to-drink beverage containers from 100ml to 2L must be returned for deposit. 

Packaging 

  • Clean aluminum foil and plates 
  • Cardboard boxes 
  • Egg cartons 
  • Fruit baskets 
  • Take-out food containers 
  • Paper bags 
  • Soft packaging and wrapping film 
  • Cardboard rolls (toilet paper, paper towels) 

Printed Materials 

  • Newspapers and flyers 
  • Envelopes (with or without windows) 
  • Paper sheets (with or without staples) 
  • Notebooks, magazines, catalogs, phone books 

Important: All containers must be rinsed and free of food residue. A soiled item can contaminate the contents of the entire bin. 

Refused Materials 

The following items should not be placed in the recycling bin: 

  • Pressurized steel containers (e.g., aerosols) 
  • Polystyrene packaging (e.g., breaks into small beads) 
  • Biodegradable or compostable plastics (e.g., marked PLA) 
  • Paper towels, tissues, napkins 
  • Household garbage bags 
  • Plastic or metal toys 
  • Paint or oil containers 
  • Electronic devices 
  • Batteries 
  • Appliances with refrigerant liquid (e.g., fridge, air conditioner) 
  • Clothing, textiles, and shoes 
  • Flat glass, light bulbs, drinking glasses, Pyrex dishes, mirrors 
  • Diapers, menstrual cups 
  • Pet litter

Broken Bin: What to Do? 

If your recycling bin is damaged or unusable, you can submit a online request via our platform by selecting the category “Bins – Collections.” 

Be sure to specify: 

  • The type of bin concerned 
  • The nature of the damage (e.g., lid, latch, wheels, bin structure)
